Queensland Unions - Director – Campaigns, Media and Communications

Queensland Unions is seeking an experienced campaign, media and communications leader
to help build the public voice and influence of working people across Queensland.

The Queensland Council of Unions (QCU) is the peak body for trade unions in Queensland,
representing 25 affiliated unions and 400,000 workers. We lead and support unions to
achieve social and economic justice for working people, defending and improving wages,
conditions and safety, and ensuring workers have a strong voice in public debate and
decision-making.

We are creating a new senior leadership role: Executive Director – Campaigns, Media
and Communications.

Reporting to the General Secretary and leading a team of four campaigns, media and
communications staff, you will provide strategic leadership across QCU’s statewide
campaigning, public affairs, media, digital communications, publications and brand.
You will oversee the translation of QCU’s industrial, social, economic and workplace safety
priorities into compelling, worker led campaigns that mobilise workers, support affiliates and
influence decision-makers.

The role
You will lead the development, delivery and evaluation of integrated campaigns on issues
including workplace rights, wages, safety, workers’ compensation, gender equity, skilled
migration, public services and social justice.

You will bring together organising, affiliate engagement, research, public advocacy, media,
digital communications, advertising, events and political engagement to achieve clear
campaign outcomes.

You will also:
 lead QCU’s proactive and reactive media strategy, including high level media
engagement, speechwriting, briefings and crisis communications;
 provide strategic advice and communications support to the General Secretary and
QCU leadership;
 grow QCU’s digital reach, engagement and worker mobilisation through compelling
content, audience insights and effective digital strategy;
 build and protect QCU’s reputation as a credible, trusted and influential voice for
Queensland workers;
 lead, mentor and develop a creative, collaborative and high performing team;
 work closely with affiliated unions, the ACTU, community organisations, researchers
and other campaign partners; and
 contribute to QCU’s organisational strategy, governance, risk management and
planning as a member of the senior leadership team.

AMWU - Regional Organiser - Northern Territory

Our Union is growing and going from strength to strength in Queensland and the
Northern Territory. We’re looking for an Organiser to join our team, working out of our
Darwin office.

The Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union is one of Australia’s largest trade unions
and covers workers in many areas including metals and engineering, manufacturing, rail,
defence and aerospace, scientific and technical, print and vehicle manufacturing.

The position involves working with members, potential members, union delegates and
other Officials and Officers of the AMWU and other Unions and employers. The position
may involve some regional and occasional interstate travel.

The salary package will be commensurate with experience, and includes a fully maintained Union Vehicle and above SGC employer superannuation.

AMWU - Regional Organiser - Townsville and Surrounds

Our Union is growing and going from strength to strength in Queensland. We’re looking
for an Organiser to join our team, working out of our Townsville office.
